Escape to Miami Triathlon September 25, 2011
Three of the past Presidents of the FCA Sports Council entered the Olympic distance triathlon at the Escape to Miami Triathlon in Miami, Florida on September 25, 2011. Drs. Joanne Fava, Carlo Guadagno and Todd Narson raced as Team TriDocs. Dr. Joanne Fava was the Swimmer, Dr. Todd Narson was the cyclist and Dr. Carlo Guadagno was the runner in this three legged sport. They had a blast and represented the Council and the chiropractic profession with a respectable finish. Look to the future for more about Team TriDocs! Congratulations Team Team TriDocs!


Junior World Cup Championships Softball. December 30, 2010 -January 5, 2011
The FCA Sports Council once again provided care to the Junior Girls World Cup Softball Championships in Plant City Florida at the International Softball Federation World Headquarters. These games were the culmination of a years long play and had 18 teams from all over the world vie for World Champion. The final pitted Brazil against undefeated South Florida. Brazil hung on to win 3-2. Puerto Rico won the bronze beating Oviedo, Florida. Other teams came from South Korea, Manitoba Canada, Ontario Canada, California, Philippines, Colorado and Russia. Drs. Joanne Fava, Valli Gambina and Sabrina Atkins-Bathalter provided care for these young ladies. Congratulations Team Brazil!


Professional Beach Volleyball Players of the AVP
On April 16, 17 and 18 the 2010 The FCA Sports Council, under the direction of Medical Director, Dr. Carlo Guadagno, was proud to serve the Professional Beach Volleyball Players of the AVP during their 2010 season opener and only Florida appearance. The tournament featured Beijing Olympic Gold Medalists Phil Dalhausser, Todd Rogers and Misty May-Treanor. Other Council members that assisted were Dr. Tom Cowell, Dr. Jennifer Ilyes, Dr. Todd Rodman, Dr. Todd Narson, and Dr. Steve Muscari. There were approximately 75 player encounters on Friday, 100 on Saturday and 50 on Sunday. Thankfully, overall there were few serious injuries. Our staff was truly integrated with 2 DO’s, 2PT’s, 5ATC’s, 5 LMT’s, 1 RN, 8 DC’s and 1 DC student observed. I believe we worked well together as a unit for the ultimate benefit of the health of the athletes. Thanks to everyone who gave of their time and talent. Thanks to Dr. Ernie Ferrel for his guidance and wisdom. Thanks to Matt Gage for giving us the opportunity to showcase our talents as sports medicine professionals.


Grappler's Quest 2009
On August 8th, 2009 a sports medicine team headed by Dr. Todd Narson of Miami Beach FL attended to the hundreds of athletes competing at Grappler's Quest 2009 Southeast Championships. Accompanying Dr. Narson were Dr. Mike Mathesie of Coral Springs, Dr. Darren Kreitman of Tamarac, Dr. Tom Cowell of Ft. Lauderdale and Dr. Todd Rodman of Boca Raton. Assisting the sports physicians were Mark Alexander, LMT, Melody Gedeon, LMT and Vivian Gacet LMT. Two of Coral Springs finest paramedics were also in attendance for emergency medical support. Injuries treated consisted of broken metacarpals, fractured spinous process & fractured ribs, elbow, ankle and knee sprains, severe neck sprains & torticollis, back pain, rotator cuff injuries, loss of consciousness, wrist sprains, finger sprains and numerous bloody noses.We worked from 8am when the athletes started weighing in until 8pm when the last match ended.


National Junior college World Series 2008
Once again Drs. Fava, Gambina, John Martin and Jamie ?? were in Plant City Florida at the International Softball Federation World Headquarters for the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series Championships in May 2008. The tournament’s 16-team consisted of teams traveling from Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Wallace-Hanceville Community College from Northern Alabama defeated Florida’s own Santa Fe Community College 5- 2.


National Junior college World Series 2007
This was an awesome event once again at the ISF Headquarters in Plant City Florida. This event was full of excitement! Drs. Valli Gambina, Joanne Fava, John Martin and Jimbo Haley were the doctors in charge of the care of athletes participating in the NJCAA National Championships Series in Plant City Florida. The 16-team field traveled from all over the country and this year top-seeded Chipola was crowned NJCAA national champion after a second match up against eighth-seeded North Idaho, in a 6-3 victory.


Suncoast Cycling Classic 2006
This awesome event was full of incredible speed and power through hairpin turns and narrow straight aways. These athletes pushed themselves through one of the most greuling courses in the State of Florida. We had 2 full days of fun under the Venice sun with the Gulf of Mexico less then a mile from where we were stationed. A big Thank you goes out to Drs Valli Gambina, Joanne Fava, and Jimbo Haley for volunteering.


National Junior College Softball National Championships May 2006
Dr. Gambina was Chef De Mission for a contingency of doctors from the FCA Sports Council including Dom Uy, Carolyn Scott, John Martin and Joanne Fava were again at the ISF World Headquarters in Plant City, Florida for the National Junior College Softball Championship Series. The 13 teams hailed from Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Fourth-seeded Pima Community College (Tucson, AZ) edged #3 Coast Community College (Panama City, FL), 3-2, in the title game this afternoon at the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Division I women’s (fast pitch) softball national championship


ISF Slow Pitch World Cup October 8-10, 2005
Once again we provided care at the International Softball Federation Slow Pitch Wolrd Cup in Plant City, Florida. The team from Scotland prevailed as 2005 World Champions. They came up from the losers brackett to beat the USA team in 2 games for the title! Teams came from Ireland, Great Britain, Cayman Island, Bahamas, Scotland and USA. In all there were 11 teams competing for the title of World Champion! A big Thank you goes out to Drs Valli Gambina, Joanne Fava, Lisa Palmer, Sabrina Atkins and John Martin for volunteering.


Suncoast Sundown Criterium May 14 - 15, 2005
Once again we were in sunny little Venice for the speed of cycling. This year the event was a 2 day event with a criterium on Saturday and a Road Race on Sunday. Saturday saw a great deal of injuries during the tight turns and high speed of a short track through the streets of downtown Main Street. Sunday was almost injury free while racers of all ages competed in long course racing. Thank you goes out to Drs. Joanne Fava, Sean Stringer and Carolyn Scott. We were even joined by Dr. Carolyn Scott's mother on Sunday! Thank you!


World University Games October 26-31, 2004
While many of our members were in Plantation a few of us were up in PLant City, Florida at the 1st World University Games Softball Championships. This was the post Olympic competition between University athletes. Many of the athletes represented their respected nations at the 2004 Olympics Games in Athens. Thanks to Val Gambina, Jim Rybinski,Sabrina Atkins, Joanne Fava and Dom Uy.


Rising Star Softball Showcase October 29-31, 2004
We are fortunate that each fall for this particular event New York Chiropractic College sends us Dr. Sherri Lashomb and 10 interns. They again had a wonderful experience treating all types of injuries from minor scapes to fractures and more significant head trauma. This fall we were all graced by the presence of Chiropractic Sports Medicine leaders like Tom Hyde, Don Aspegren, Mike Scheider, Buddy Ramsey, Shelia Wilson, and Jim Lowrance, these doctors travel all over the world providing chiropractic sports medicine at major sporting events such as the Olympics, Pan Am Games, World Championship Games, and much more. Thank you to members of our council for volunteering time also, Sean Stringer, Jonathon Schwartz, Carlos Guadagno, Todd Narson and many other I can't remember.


Rising Star Softball Showcase July 22-24, 2004
This is an biannual event that is always successful. Each year we see more and more atheltes and injuries. This summer Valli Gambina, Sabrina Askins, Carolyn Scott, Jonathon Schwartz, Sean Stringer, Mike Mathesie and Todd Narson.


Disney 1/2 Ironman Triathlon May 22, 2004
This was amazing. We had a small showing for this one, but had a great time. We stayed at Disney and did some fun stuff the day before. Sunday morning was a beautiful day in paradise, we provided care to athletes on course, which amazing to see the diversity of skill. I look forward to this again in 2005. Thank you to Tim Chapman, Valli Gambina and Joanne Fava.


Suncoast Sundown Criterium May 10, 2004
This was a grea time had by all, Sean Stringer, Valli Gambina, Carolyn Scott treated many injuries as these athletes raced through the downtown streets of Venice Florida. Carolyn's mom joined us once again and helped out a great deal. Thank you all!


Rising Star Softball Showcase October 24-26, 2003
We had a great turn out for this tournament from our doctors We also had the pleasure of help from Dr. Sherri Lashomb and 11interns from New York Chiropractic College. These students learn a great deal from our doctors and I think we learn a lot from them too! Spencer Baron and Pat Helma seemed to have a great time, just ask them! Thanks to all of the doctors that helped out, Todd Narson, Jonathon Schwartz, Tom Hyde, Dan Kirshner, Valli Gambina, Sean Stringer, Mike Mathesie, Joanne Fava and few others I forgot, please forgive me.


ASA Men's Over 50 National Championships August 29-31, 2003
We had over 60 teams compete for the Over 50 Slow Pitch National Chamionship in Winter Haven, Florida over the Labor Day Weekend. Drs. Sean Stringer and Sabrina Atkins provided sports injury care to athletes participating. We had only a few minor injuries during tournament play.


Palm Beach County Sports Institue Sports Festival July 18-20
The PBCSC held their annual Sports Festival which brought over 3500 local children to the South Florida Fairgrounds to learn and participate in 15 different sports. A big kudos to Drs. Alex Keith, Richard Powers, Tom Cowell, Brad Timpf, Kevin Wood, Roger Verno and Mitch Siegal, who volunteered for this event with only one day notice. We really appreciate your dedication to our council.


Junior Girls Softball Worldcup, July 8-13,2003
The FCA-SC through FISC was in charge of all sports medicine needs for this international tournament. Dr. Valli Gambina was Chef De Mission. We had over 40 international teams play for the World Championship title in the 16&under age group. The T-Birds from Lilburn, Georgia overcame an early 2-0 deficit to post a 3-2 victory over Chinese Taipai. Team FLA from Palm Harbor, Florida placed third, while Philippines were the fourth placed team. Thank you to Drs. Gambina, Sabrina Atkins, Sean Stringer, Kristen Kulju, Tim Chapman, John Martin, Joanne Fava and a very special thank you to Dr. Mary Ford who traveled from California and Intern Heather Pritchard from Northwesern Chiropractic College.


Sunshine State Games June 2003
Tampa, Florida
The FCA-SC was responsilbe for providing care to the Baseball and Softball Venues during the recent Sunshine StateGames. Thank you to Drs.
